 Course Description  

A semi-intensive course for English language learners with an emphasis on communication skills that will prepare degree-seeking students for future 100 level and higher courses.

 Prerequisite  

Prerequisite: Appropriate placement test score; B- (80%) or higher in EAP 75; or instructor permission.

Learning Outcomes

After completing this course, the student will be able to:

  1. Speak for understanding and fluency through group discussions, presentations, and debates.
  2. Expand level-appropriate academic vocabulary, focusing on correct pronunciation and usage.
  3. Participate actively in class and group discussions by using effective discussion strategies, including agreeing/disagreeing; asking for clarification or confirmation; and paraphrasing.
  4. Present ideas and topics using research from academically appropriate audio/visual sources.
  5. Create an MLA Works Cited page to cite research sources.
  6. Use select media such as Microsoft PowerPoint and/or videos to present and convey ideas.
