 Course Description  

Introduction to the stages of human development with particular attention to adult life development. Explores the relevance of ethnicity, culture, gender, socioeconomic class, sexual orientation and community in a person's development. Required course for both Human Services degrees (including fast track students).

 Prerequisite  

Prerequisite: HSERV 101 with a "C" or higher.

After completing this course, the student will be able to:

  1. Have a general overview of the history of the study of human development.
  2. Become familiar with the concepts of change and stability in the physical, cognitive, and psychosocial domains.
  3. Recognize specific areas of development that are subject to internal, external or a combination of internal and external forces.
  4. Identify a variety of ethical and professional issues related to the study of human development.
  5. Recognize the importance of �timing� in the development of change in certain domains over the life span.
  6. Develop an appreciation for diversity in culture, class, gender, opportunity and sexual orientation as these factors impact development or express a range of developmental alternatives.
