 Course Description  

An intermediate or advanced studio course in either oil, watercolor or acrylic medium. This course will continue the study of formal composition and analysis with an emphasis on development of subject matter, themes and individual style. Course content will focus on research and independent projects. May be repeated for a total of 8 credits.

 Prerequisite  

Prerequisite: ART 201 with a "D" or higher.

Learning Outcomes

After completing this course, the student will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate advanced painting skills in a selected painting medium of either watercolor, acrylic or oil.
  2. Develop a portfolio of paintings based on a common theme or subject matter.
  3. Demonstrate skills to critically analyze their artworks using the vocabulary of the discipline.

Course Contents

  1. Using lectures or seminars, group projects and research students will explore specific development of subject matter and themes in painting.
  2. Using notebooks and self directed studio assignments students will develop a portfolio of paintings based on common themes, techniques or subject matter.
  3. Using formal critique sessions and self assessments students analyze their artwork using the vocabulary of the discipline.
