 Course Description  

Operation, diagnosis, service & repair of automatic transmissions/transaxles, including principles of planetary power flow and operation of valve body, torque converter, and electronic controls. Operation, diagnosis, service & repair of manual transmissions/transaxles, clutches and differentials. Perform diagnosis, service and repair on a variety of vehicles.

 Prerequisite  

Prerequisite or concurrent enrollment: AT 101 or 107; AT 133, WT 133 and WMATH 100.

After completing this course, the student will be able to:

1. Demonstrate safe practices while performing a variety of repairs and services on automatic and manual transmissions.
2. Explain automatic transmission operation and trace power flow on a hydraulic schematic for all gears.
3. Access and properly use electronic service information for repair of automatic and manual transmissions.
4. Understand proper operation of a torque converter and valve body.
5. Diagnose, service and repair automatic transmissions.
6. Diagnose, service and repair manual transmissions.
7. Explain manual transmission operation and trace power flow through all gears.
8. Accurately diagnose transmission computer control systems.
9. Service and repair automatic and manual transmissions.
10. Diagnose, service and repair vehicle clutch systems.
11. Diagnose, service and repair drivelines, CV axles, U-joints, etc.
12. Diagnose, service and repair transfer cases and other 4WD/AWD components.
13. Diagnose, service and repair differentials.
